Trichy – Uchi Pillayar
Hi, I had been to Trichy and Tanjore recently. In Trichy i visited the Uchi Pillayar temple and the Sriranganthar temple. This entry is about Uchi Pillayar temple.Anyone who passes by the fort of Trichy, would certainly have a glance at a monument on top of a high raised rock. It is a monument which is significant to Trichy alone. And yes, it is the Rock Fort temple I’am talking about. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, and is known as Uchi Pillayar Kovil.
One can reach this place quite easily. If you are travellinh by bus then, you will have to get down at the entrance of the fort. Not much of the fort is visible, but for its entrance. As you pass through the entrance, we can see the busy market area. There is a temple pond too.
This is what it would look like from the pond.
We need to climb through the steps. Please dont waste your energy trying to run through the steps as one can get easily tired. I didnt run this time, as I know it would be tough. I did run over the steps during my previous visit to this temple and it was very tiring.
First one gets to see the Thayumanaswamy temple, dedicated to lord Shiva. It is a very old temple. The idol of Siva is big. I wanted to take a few snaps in the temple but I was not allowed to do so. I guess, there are somethings in life, one has to be there to see it and enjoy its beauty.
A few facts about this temple….
Just after this temple, there are these beautiful carvings and encryptions..
The scene from the top of the rock is breath taking… would have been even more beautiful had only the Cauvery been flowing in all its glory…The gopura seen here is that of Sriranganathar temple’s. Will post another entry on it sometime later..
This snap below shows the temple pond and the fort-entrance (near to the church). So thats the distance one has to cover by feet!!
